30 Years Cultural event programme: Markus Zohner Arts Company
With the performance of ODYSSEE, Markus Zohner Arts Company has been touring all over the world. From Europe to South America, from Central Asia to Africa: this spectacular performance by Patrizia Barbuiani and Markus Zohner offers a uniquely thrilling experience for the public and critics worldwide. At the dawn of Western culture, the ODYSSEE is performed by two full-cast actors who plunge themselves so thoroughly into the material that they resurface in various figures, gods, monsters, fairies, ghosts, and nymphs and seamen. With nothing but their bodies, mimics, and voices, the two actors make a world of Greek mythology emerge before the audience’s eyes, always maintained by humour, an irony that will save the public from drowning in the apparent infinity of the epic. Theatre unplugged.
After Nur-sultan, the company will travel to Almaty, where they performed over 20 years ago. After their masterclasses with professional actors, Kazakhstan’s first independent theatre companies were founded. From 2000-2002 the company produced Markus Zohner Flying Theatre Academy for Central Asia, where influential theatre professionals from all over Europe flew to Kazakhstan to educate a group of young actors and show them the tools for devising, creating and financing independent theatre performances.
Switzerland and Kazakhstan celebrate the 30th Anniversary of establishing Diplomatic Relations this June. To mark the occasion, two wonderfully talented Swiss artists will perform Odyssee, a spectacular theatre play that has been presented to audiences worldwide for the past two decades. Twenty years after their successful performances in Almaty, Patrizia Barbuiani and Markus Zohner return to Kazakhstan to offer us an exciting theatrical experience and conduct master classes with young local artists.
