Patrick Botticchio
Patrick Botticchio — Swiss filmmaker and director of photography, born 1982 — started out as a professional photographer before moving to Spain from 2004 to 2009 to study cinema at the prestigious ESCAC in Barcelona.
Over the years he moved — almost organically, driven above all by the need to tell stories — from photography to directing. This trajectory often keeps him behind the camera, where he seeks an intimate, direct rapport with his subjects.
Since 2016 he has directed 15 documentaries through ongoing partnerships with independent producers, with Swiss broadcaster RSI in the programme Storie, and through Primitive Films, the production company he co-founded with editor Alberto Bernad in Ticino. Patrick has worked steadily with the Markus Zohner Arts Company since 2012, taking charge of direction and audiovisual design for both side projects and the company's stage works.
